Depending on the complexity of the sculpture, your casting appointment may last from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Since personal sculptures are individually handcrafted, only a limited number of appointments can be taken per month.  Please schedule well in advance.

Casting sessions can get a bit messy, so it's best to wear older clothing. Appointments are completely private, though you are welcome to bring along anyone you like.

You’ll need to hold your chosen pose for anywhere from 3 to 25 minutes, depending on complexity of the sculpture. Keep in mind that extreme positions can become tiring or uncomfortable in that length of time.

The impression medium is a non-toxic seaweed based material that sets to a rubbery consistency at room temperature. With certain poses, a thin plaster shell may be placed over the impression material for support. The plaster does not come into direct contact with the skin.

Minimal facial and body hair can be coated to allow the impression to be taken. Abundant hair on the head is more challenging and messy; but through a combination of casting and sculpting, the results can be beautiful.
Certain types of clothing may be worn and actually cast into the sculpture. With other apparel, it is best to cast or sculpt it in later.

Objects can be incorporated to add a very personal touch to your sculpture. You can leave the actual item in the sculpture or simply have a cast made of it as we do with wedding rings.  You can select something at the studio (everything from marble balls to paintbrushes and baseballs) or bring a special something of your own. Objects will not be harmed by the impression material provided they are water resistant. You can also add objects to the finished piece. Certain poses and pieces work better than others. Please let me know if you want to do this when you schedule your appointment and we can discuss the particulars.

Sculptures can be cast to show intricate detail –every pore and fingerprint. This leads to an incredible realism in the finished piece. Some people prefer a softer version. Your sculpture can be retouched to any degree you like - from a slight softening of the smile lines to a completely polished, stylized version of oneself.

The finished sculpture will be ready anywhere from 10 days to 8 weeks - again depending on complexity.
